How to get from Nelson to Abel Tasman

There's only one regular scheduled bus/shuttle service from Nelson to Marahua (where the Abel Tasman National Park track begins), and that leaves at 7:30am - too early for most people flying into Nelson the same day. You can find that regular shuttle schedule here: and the fare structure here:

Because of this you can either try to hitchhike (too unreliable for me) or you can charter a shuttle. Unfortunately, to charter a shuttle you have to pay the full cost of the charter (about 5 x $35 so $175 one way), UNLESS you can get on someone else's chartered shuttle that has space, and you can find the dates and times of these pre-chartered shuttles here:

If you can't get on the regular service or find a pre-existing charter shuttle that you can join, then you can charter a shuttle for yourself at the date and time that suits you here: By doing this you'll be up to pay the equivalent fare of five persons, HOWEVER, they (the Heaphy Bus Company) will advertise your charter on their Trek Express webpage (don't ask me why they use different names) and so try to find extra passengers to share the cost with you.

I post all this info to make it easy for you to join pre-chartered shuttles from Nelson to the Able Tasman, as I have had to use this option myself. All the best.

Note, you can also use this service to get from Nelson Airport to Marahua or Kaiteriteri or other tracks as well.

Is it really life or death?

Do we have to do everything like it's a frantic life or death emergency? I think not. Let's move forward with purpose, not jumping up and down without a plan responding to every task as if it's an emergency. B

Fulfilment with love (to ourself and others)

Fulfilment without harm has a bonus in that it also allows us to assert that we should also refuse harm to ourselves (not just to not harm others). However, fulfilment with love is more active in the sense that we actively love (i.e. grow, cherish, help), rather than just not harm, others. This is also a positive. But does fulfilment with love have the assertion to not tolerate harm to ourselves?

Yes, if you include ’self-love’ in fulfilment with love, and we should. So if you read fulfilment with love, as fulfilment with love to others and yourself (meaning that you do not harm others and do not allow others to harm you, because you love others and yourself) then that would work. But would that necessitate that you love yourself more than others?

No, you can love others as much as you love yourself, but not more. This means you would not harm others, as you love them, but also that you would not allow harm to yourself, even if this means resisting the harm from others (you don’t hit back, but you do restrain their efforts to hit you; you don’t attack back, but you do negate their attacks on you). More than not harming others and yourself though, or allowing harm to yourself or others (note that this aspect means you should intervene in a non-harmful way to protect others from harm, which requires a lot of courage), you also love them, so you help them, cherish them, grow them. (Note, it follows from all this that you do need to love yourself first, though not more, in order to love others.)

Obviously all this is relating to all this: The Common Purpose Manifesto

These are my mantras

I'm not sure why I'm sharing these.

They feel more personal than anything else I ever have. But maybe there's some reason to. I constantly review them.

We are
All children of life (be it, see it).
I am
True (to life, to love, to myself, to others).
Strong (thru humility, integrity, and love).
Real (me, authentic, loving, good).
Whole (child-self adult-mind parent-able).
One (align’ with life, harmonious, natural).
Healthy (moderate, calm, trim 75kg).
Credible (considered & committed).
I believe (love & trust)
In life (serve life, study life, live).
In myself (grow without harm).
In others (grow them).
In beauty (protect & grow it).
I will
Serve life (trust life, survive and thrive, live).
Contribute my best to life (grow all).
Do with love what feels right (in sync).
Lead, influence, or let go (never worry).
Say, what's needed & why (inform clearly)

Who should lead?

Who has the most blood in the game? Who's putting the most on the line? Who stands to lose the most? The most committed, because they have the most in the game and the most to lose, should lead. Not the bossiest, not the loudest, but the most committed with the most on the line. They will make the right decisions and see the task through.

The Lord's Prayer

"Heavenly Father, hallowed be your name", Y aH WeH who is Life. (We are here to live, and to love Life and all his children.)
"Your Kingdom come." (The Kingdom of Love).
"Your will be done." (That we all love each other.)
"On Earth as it is in Heaven." (In Heaven love rules, as it can on Earth.)

"Give us our daily bread." (The bread of life that we need daily - it is Life, it is God, the flesh of Jesus.)
"Forgive us our debts." (Our sins, our wrongs, any harm we do.)
"As we forgive our debtors." (Those who have sinned, wronged, harmed us.)
"And lead us not into temptation." (Acts that may cause us to harm ourselves or others like casual sex, harmful drugs and drinking.)
"But deliver us from harm." (Anything that harms us.)

God is Life. His Kingdom is Love. We are all his children and should love one another. The Holy Spirit is the Truth that we should all love each other which is what Jesus wanted us to remember by keeping this very simple principle simple. He didn't want all the details to be written down and argued over. He wanted the simple principle of loving Life (God) and each other to be easily remembered so they could be ('easily') followed.

Just a thought.

Wisdom is not just about knowledge, it is also an attitude that we can never be certain about anything and that there is always more to learn.

This is also the spirit of scientific enquiry.

This attitude strongly suggests humility in the pursuit of all learning. An attitude which, unfortunately, many scientists and religious disciples seem to lack.

Neither scientists nor disciples can be certain of anything. As such, absolute certainty of faith in the existence or non-existence of God, or in any finding or theory (such as evolution), is impossible.

Likewise, the truth of any thought, testimony, observation, idea or scripture should always be subject to evaluation, interpretation, and replacement if better knowledge should come to light by discovery through observation, thought or divine inspiration.

And if an explanation, observation, idea or revelation doesn't seem right or doesn't fully explain what it seeks to, then it is ripe for replacement by an improved, more expansive and more correct explanation, observation, idea or revelation.

I'm not looking for certainty through faith, I'm looking for certainty through knowledge. An unending search, as our stock of knowledge is always growing and changing. But that's the way I like it.

Ancient DNA pinpoints Paleolithic liaison in Europe

Ancient DNA pinpoints Paleolithic liaison in Europe
Ann Gibbons

A young man who lived in Romania 37,000 to 42,000 years inherited as much as one-tenth of his DNA from a Neandertal ancestor, according to a new study of ancient DNA.

Ever since spelunkers found a robust jawbone in a cave in Romania in 2002, some paleoanthropologists have thought that its huge wisdom teeth and other features resembled those of Neandertals even though the fossil was a modern human. Now, by sequencing informative parts of the Romanian man's genome, an international team of researchers has found that he had inherited 4.8% to 11.3% of his genome from a Neandertal who lived only 200 years or so previously, according to a talk this month at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.

The finding confirms that Neandertals interbred with modern humans more than once, and it is the first evidence that the two types of humans had a liaison in Europe.

How To Insert A New Blank Page On Your iPhone

This is if you want to insert a new blank page between iPhone pages so that you can easily manage, sort and order your iPhone app icons in the way most convenient to you.

I tried to search for an answer to this and couldn't find any that answered the question easily. A lot were about inserting an iPhone page that stayed blank, but this is about inserting a page between other pages so that you can sort you app icons onto that new page, keeping them up the front (without having to move every single icon down a page to make room - which would be a real pain if you've got a lot of icons).

Anyway, the solution is simple. Open your iPhone (or iPad) in iTunes. Go to the Apps tab. On your computer screen in iTunes you will see a horizontal column of iPhone screens in miniature. Scroll down this and you will see a grey iPhone screen at the bottom. You can drag this grey screen up through the column and put it wherever you would like a new blank screen. Then simply click on the screen from where you want to shift your icons. This will show that screen in larger size on the left of the miniature icons. Drag the icons you want to the new page you've created, and you're done!

Hopefully this will help the iPhone user who also asked this question here:

Government & The Universal Income

We should not reduce the size of government, and expect the community or private sector to do more, without the introduction of a shared base income that enables people to do more.

Fear & The Public Sector

No one should have to fear being critical of the government or holding political opinions, public servants included. Everyone is entitled to have and express their views on how things should be done, and what is right and wrong, without the fear of retribution. Every human has the right to enter the debate.

These are rights that should be protected under public service Codes of Conduct, rather they are debased. They invoke another reason why a guaranteed income, universal income, or shared base income should be the right of everyone – as with it the damage that can occur from censor is mitigated.

Children - Blessing Or Burden

I guess it’s whether you see children as a blessing or a burden that shapes you’re attitude as to whether they owe you anything or you owe them. They are always a blessing.

Why Should I (Tell A Story)?

Why should I tell a story? Why should I do that? If I was a natural story-teller, maybe I would do that. But I just want to live my life, that’s a story in itself, but I don’t want to tell it. It’s hard enough just trying to be me, let alone writing about semi-imaginary others.

Tragic & Romantic

The two are closely related, in fact, I think a truly romantic story cannot do without a dose of tragedy, because adversity is what make romance poignant and real.

There has to be adversity, there has to be some struggle, otherwise achievements lack meaning and satisfaction.

Confidence In Wellington City Council Reinforced

I am actually amazed, even flabbergasted that Wellington City Council rectified not collecting our recycling bin earlier this week. They actually came round and collected and emptied the bin from where it was beside our house (as we had brought it back from beside the road when it wasn't collected on the day).

This is the service I 'expect' when something goes wrong, ie a full rectification of the error. I just didn't expect to get it from the Council (esp. not when I complained via their website - - you're normally hear nothing don't you?). Is it now really safe for me to have full confidence in the Council, in local government? Perhaps not yet, but this experience has certainly increased it.

Different Google Logo Designs Showing On iGoogle

I would like to be able to see the various Google logo designs they have on the original Google search page on iGoogle, but there's no iGoogle design that enables this - frustrating. Please tell me if one's ever made.
