Copy & Improve (Incremental) – Think & Create (Substantial)

Copy & improve – surely that is the quick way to rapidly evolve something? But how often is the 'improvement' actually an improvement? Sometimes the original conception, particularly if much time and thought has gone into it, has a purity of function and appearance that later change (probably particularly by another) leads to a lesser variation (even when there is an improvement on one measure it starts to gain weaknesses in others, because it is no longer conceived as a completed, self-reinforcing entity).
