How to get from Nelson to Abel Tasman

There's only one regular scheduled bus/shuttle service from Nelson to Marahua (where the Abel Tasman National Park track begins), and that leaves at 7:30am - too early for most people flying into Nelson the same day. You can find that regular shuttle schedule here: www.theheaphybus.co.nz/schedule.html and the fare structure here: www.theheaphybus.co.nz/destinations.html

Because of this you can either try to hitchhike (too unreliable for me) or you can charter a shuttle. Unfortunately, to charter a shuttle you have to pay the full cost of the charter (about 5 x $35 so $175 one way), UNLESS you can get on someone else's chartered shuttle that has space, and you can find the dates and times of these pre-chartered shuttles here: www.trekexpress.co.nz/trips.html

If you can't get on the regular service or find a pre-existing charter shuttle that you can join, then you can charter a shuttle for yourself at the date and time that suits you here: www.cognitoforms.com/TheHeaphyBusBookings/CharteredTripsBookingForm By doing this you'll be up to pay the equivalent fare of five persons, HOWEVER, they (the Heaphy Bus Company) will advertise your charter on their Trek Express webpage (don't ask me why they use different names) and so try to find extra passengers to share the cost with you.

I post all this info to make it easy for you to join pre-chartered shuttles from Nelson to the Able Tasman, as I have had to use this option myself. All the best.

Note, you can also use this service to get from Nelson Airport to Marahua or Kaiteriteri or other tracks as well.
